Official Rules of Netball

 

Red Award 

The Red Award is an introductory theory based course. The course is run for those turning 12 years and over and is run during the netball season. The course consists of 3-4 theory based sessions to learn the rules with an experienced umpire.

Requirements:

Sit the Red Award Course – refer to your club Umpiring Convenor for details.

 

Blue Award

The Blue Award is held during a practice gala day where the umpires are instructed and coached on the court with basic umpiring knowledge.

Requirements:

Whistle and a willingness to learn.

 

White Award

The White Award is the progression from the Blue Award. Umpires start umpiring on competition games on Saturdays. They have a mentor with them to provide support and coaching whilst they are umpiring.

Requirements:

A minimum of 4 games are umpired to achieve White Award.

 

Green Award

is achieved by umpiring a junior C grade game where the candidate shows basic control of the game and is “sometimes” proficient in the required assessable criteria. The candidate should be dressed appropriately. Gaining your Green Award Badge is based on skills and is not dependent on timeframes. 

Requirements:

70% Pass in the Rules of Netball Theory Exam.

Gold Award

is achieved by umpiring a senior C grade game where the candidate shows basic control of the game and is deemed competent in the assessable criteria. The candidate should be dressed appropriately. Gaining your Gold Award Badge is based on skills and is not dependent on timeframes. 

Requirements:

Current 70% Pass in the Rules of Netball Exam plus completion of the Foundation Umpire Course.

NATIONAL C

The National C is the first entry level badge on the national umpiring badge system and has a prerequisite of Level 1 Accreditation and a pass of 70% in Theory 1 Exam

 

NATIONAL B

The National B is the next level badge to the national umpiring badge system and has a prerequisite of a pass of 80% in Theory 1 Exam.

 

NATIONAL A

The National A is then the next level badge to the national umpiring badge system and has a prerequisite of Level 2 Accreditation and a pass of 90% in Theory 1 Exam.

 

Net Set Go Umpire Badge

Net Set Go games have modified rules for our 7’s, 8’s and 9 year old players and an umpire’s role is to be a Rules Educator rather than a Rules Enforcer. In order to umpire Net Set Go games, an umpire must be competent in the modified rules.

Requirements:
 

Also pass with 70% on the NSG Rules Theory Test.

 

Elite Umpire Course

The Elite Umpire Course has been designed to further develop umpiring skills, techniques, and increase understanding of the procedures and protocols of a higher level of umpiring, and generally extend the participants parameters as an officiator of netball.
